Heartbeat International is the world's premier provider of free, cardiac pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and medical care to needy patients around the world. Heartbeat International provides these life-saving services through approved distribution centers referred to as Pacemaker Banks.
Due to rapidly changing trends and costs in today's market place, Heartbeat International was faced with the challenge of retooling its Pacemaker Bank model in its continued commitment to fulfill and grow its life Mission of Making "Poor" Hearts Beat Better worldwide. To equalize increasing supply and demand, Heartbeat International instituted a new Pacemaker Bank model that became fully effective in 2007. This new directive maintains the core elements of the original Pacemaker Bank model but adds organic and non-organic strategies that:
- Creates a healthy sense of dissatisfaction thus creating a renewed urgency for our Mission
- Discerns the Vision that will shape a new trajectory for the future
- Develops and empowers local leaders (champions of the Pacemaker Bank) who will effectively and
aggressively project the Vision, and who wholeheartedly embraces our Mission of saving lives using Pacemakers as Peacemakers - Develops geographical marketing plans promoting the Vision and Mission
- Maximizes Vision momentum by realizing resources and structures
- Implements an action plan to manage positive change and growth
- Identifies underserved areas/patients in need of our life-saving services
Local Rotary clubs continue to play an integral part in the Pacemaker Bank model, acting as overseer and sponsor of many of our Banks. Pacemaker Banks must adhere to strict operating principles and are comprised of qualified and experienced physicians, an appropriately equipped and staffed hospital, and a local Rotary club or approved Social Agency.
