During the fiscal year July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital discharged a total of 189 patients from the Cardiac Advancement through Rehabilitation, Education and Support
(CARES) program.
Several standard measurements are used to assess the outcomes of persons served.
Outcomes: The outcomes of persons served on Acute Rehabilitation level of care are compared with national acute rehabilitation benchmarks compiled by the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA) database called erehabdata. There are no national benchmarks for Cardiac Programs on an LTACH level of care. The outcomes described below are for all patients with a primary cardiac diagnosis discharged between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008.

Madonna discharged a greater percentage of patients served on AR to community settings than the national benchmark and less than half as many to acute care despite admitting them, on average, 6 days earlier. Patients on LTACH were more medically involved and therefore had a longer length of stay and higher return to acute care rate, but had similar outcomes than those served in acute rehabilitation hospitals.
97% of inpatients rated their overall experience as "Excellent" or "Good". 97.5% of patients who responded to a telephone survey completed 3 months after discharge said they had maintained the gains they made during their stay at Madonna.
