Fitness: Class Descriptions

  • FS -- First Steps
    These classes are a series of gentle, introductory "first steps." Each class is designed to be educational as well as fun. These classes are 30 minutes long and are for those who are new to group exercise.

  • Beginner
    Geared toward beginning students. Low-impact, low-to-middle elevation of heart rate, plus strength training using light free weights.

  • Intermediate
    Class with low-impact, mid-level cardiovascular elevation of heart rate and/or mid-level usage of strength equipment.

  • Advanced
    Class with mid-to-high-impact level plus longer duration and higher intensity of the cardiovascular component. Mid-range to heavier-weight equipment and exercises will be utilized.

PLEASE NOTE: Classes with a range indicate the instructor adjusts for all levels of fitness. Check in with the instructor a few minutes prior to class if you are a new class member.

Class List

  • Adaptive Training
    This is a program designed to assist people with physical limitations such as spinal cord injuries, stroke, etc., while focusing on the goal of exercising independently. The class involves strength training, cardiovascular training and stretching. Please contact Charlie Bills, 486-7760, for more information before starting these classes .

  • Adaptive Yoga/Stretch
    A true beginning yoga class for clients who would like to work on stretching and flexibility training for the whole body, especially good for clients dealing with arthritis, fibromayalsia and mobility issues. Special care will be given by the instructor to customize the class for the clients' needs.

  • Aqua Balance and Movement
    This is a "First Step" class that focuses on range of motion and stability in the water. It is an excellent class for those with multiple sclerosis.

  • Aqua-Lates
    Aqua-Lates is a first step aquatics class that moves a typical Pilates class to the water. Enjoy continuous movements, non-impact forms of exercise that focus on strengthening and stretching your whole body.

  • Aqua Lite & Low
    This low-impact water class is designed for all fitness levels and includes cardiovascular exercise, stretching and balance work for a total body workout. No need to swim -- both swimmers and non-swimmers are welcome!

  • Aqua Walk
    Enjoy the benefits of walking in our indoor aqua track. Learn proper walking technique for feet, legs and upper body placement of the arms as the instructor leads you through a walking course.

  • Back Hab
    This class is excellent for those individuals with back pain or discomfort. The exercises are low impact and designed to strengthen the muscles in the back.

  • Ballet Blast
    The class focuses on abdominal work at the ballet barre to stabilize the body and provide balance and core strength to enhance your fitness workout.

  • Ballroom Blast
    Learn the Cha-Cha, Foxtrot, Rumba, and new steps each week in this total body work-out class. No partner required.

  • Body Sculpt I and II
    A total-body weight training class that concentrates on exercises to improve muscular strength and endurance giving you "head-to-toe" training. The length of class will depend on the level of intensity.

  • Cardio Fit Cycling
    This cardio class mixes technique-based riding, sport specific drills and motivating music which combine to make for an exciting and unpredictable ride for both those new to indoor cycling or those who have been riding for awhile but are looking for something new.

  • Cardio Pump I and II
    Get a complete cardiovascular workout using the step platform and walking track in this class. Aerobic weight training using light dumbbells, the body bar and resistance bands is incorporated as well.

  • Circuit Training
    Circuit Training works the entire body as individuals move through a "circuit" of various pieces of equipment. The class begins with lowintensity movements and gradually moves to high-intensity movements. This class welcomes participants of all fitness levels. This class improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, tone, balance, coordination and flexibility.

  • Cycling
    Put a "spin" on your workout! Cycling is a cardiovascular workout on stationary bicycles for the mind, body and spirit. People of all fitness levels can enjoy this fast-paced, 45-minute ride set to music.

  • Dance & Tone
    This class is designed for seniors who have developed an intermediate level of cardio endurance and like the challenges of learning basic dance combinations while achieving cardio goals. Work with weights will also be incorporated to improve overall fitness.

  • EZ Moves
    Don't let arthritis or persistent aches slow you down. Attend EZ Moves and get active again! This class focuses on range of motion, stride, balance and easing joint pain. Good for anyone looking for a zero impact workout. Suitable for people with arthritis, fibromyalgia, bursitis and joint replacement.

  • Fall Prevention
    This class focuses on improving strength and balance and is designed for middle age and older adults who would like to remain active and safe in their daily routines. The class will target strength, coordination, balance and flexibility. A combination of weight bearing and aerobic exercises will be used to improve bone & muscle strength, aerobic conditioning and balance.

  • First Step - Cardio
    Help your cardiovascular system become stronger with First Step Cardio. The class begins with five minutes of warm-up utilizing the major muscle groups of the upper and lower body. Participants use basic dance steps followed by light weight repetitions. Thera-band exercises wrap up the class with a guided walk on the track. Work at your own pace.

  • First Step - Tone
    This class is a beginners "First Step" class, which focuses on improving core stability and provides a variety of upper and lower body exercises. Use of the balance ball and bosu will be involved. This class is a great full-body workout to help tone and develop flexibility. It's also great for pre- and post-natal moms.

  • Now You Can
    This is a basic class designed for participants who want to gently start moving again. The class involves introductory dance moves such as grapevines, ball changes, cha-cha and pivot steps with basic stretching. It's a light-weight workout, which incorporates abdominal and core exercises. This class would be appropriate for pre- and post-natal mothers as well.

  • Pilates and Core Strength & Tone
    Both classes are a continuous, non-impact form of exercise that focus on strengthening and stretching your whole body. Beginner and experienced students will be invigorated during and after this workout.

  • Power Track
    A fast-paced water workout using ProActive's unique Aqua Track. If you didn't think a water workout could offer a total-body challenge, this class will have you thinking again!

  • ProActive Drum Circle*
    This class welcomes all levels of participants and students may bring their own drum. The class will be casual and geared toward joining energy in the circle. Stress reduction through the shared unity of drumming will be emphasized. The instructor will guide new participants to create exciting in-the-moment music. Drums and percussion from any culture as well as homemade instruments are welcome. The first class will be held Jan. 8, 2010.

  • Tap Blast
    Learn the basics of tap dancing including shuffles, flaps and stomps. Then, progress to combinations involving all of the basics. The music will be Broadway and Big Band. Bring your tap shoes or wear your sneakers. All ages are welcome and no experience is needed.

  • Water Aerobics
    Get ready to enjoy a fast-paced, shallow-water workout set to music. It will get your heart pumping and help to increase flexibility and cardiovascular fitness. Come and experience the benefits of exercise while minimizing impact on your joints. Working at your own pace allows many different fitness levels to participate.

  • Water Warriors
    This is a medium-to-high-intensity cardio and toning water workout for the early morning riser. Who needs a double-shot of espresso when have fello water warriors to get you going?

  • Yoga
    Gentle Yoga is part of the First Step program and is designed to introduce yoga to those who are new to fitness.

    Basic Yoga is for beginning yoga participants. Members will learn basic yoga postures and how to connect their mind, body and spirit in their yoga practice.

    Restorative Yoga is peaceful and nourishing for all levels. This class wil leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

    Usna Flow Yoga This yoga class will link postures through breath. Class will be held in a room about 80-85 degrees to combine the purifying and detoxifying qualities that a good sweat gives you. You will leave feeling rejuvenated and vibrant, alive and relaxed.

    Vinyasa Power Yoga is a challenging and invigorating full body workout designed for those familiar with yoga posture and practice.

    Yoga I is designed for those with previous experience in yoga practice. Class will build upon basic principles and postures including sun salutations and standing floor series.


  • Young At Heart
    Young at Heart is a low-impact, moderate- intensity cardio workout utilizing free weights. Participants will develop cardiovascular health through a continuous flow of aerobic activities including cardio dance, light-weight body sculpting with resistance band exercises and body bar routines.

  • Zumba Blast
    Zumba fuses energizing latin rhythms into an aerobic workout. The routine features interval training sessions where faster and slower rhythms are created while incorporating resistance training to tone and sculpt your body. No dance experience necessary!
